First Offense

May 27, 2011 |

Question: My question is in two parts. One, what is the mechanism which allows a devotee to overly criticize the activities of another devotee when they are also doing the same. (petty household matters). My understanding is that we should avoid blaming vaishnavas as Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur explains in His book Bhajana Rahasya as it is the first offence and the most serious offense against the name. Secondly, how do we deal with persons who are senior to us but making the first offense due to lack of knowledge about

Why I Don't Give Brahminical Initiation Easily

April 21, 2012 |

Question: 1) We see that Srila Prabhupada gave pancaratriki initiation (braminical) to many devotees without taking in consideration if the devotees were employed by some karmi neither if they had a braminical background. Question:

1) We see that Srila Prabhupada gave pancaratriki initiation (braminical) to many devotees without taking in consideration if the devotees were employed by some karmi neither if they had a braminical background. Maharaja, you are very strict in following Srila Prabhupada. Why is that you have those policies to give second initiation?

2) I've heard (maybe even in one of your lectures or in conversations with your disciples) that you won't be giving second initiation to those working for other people (having a sudra occupation). Recently, I was asked to speak to bhakti-school students in the temple about the desire for second initiation and I also came across quotes, saying that chanting the Gayatri mantra gradually delivers one from the material clutches (CC Madhya 8.138) and even more, unless one is initiated as a brahmana, one cannot worship the holy name properly. Why, then, second initiation isn't given more freely, considering only the qualities of a disciple and not his ways of maintenance as well or the need of second initiation for service only?

Why Sayujya is Considered As One Kind of Mukti

July 28, 2012 |

Question: The goal of a Gaudiya Vaishnava is "Prema Bhakti", but out of the 5 types of mukti, for sayujya-mukti—we use the pramana “aruhya krccrena param padam tatha, patanty adho anadrta yusmad anghrayah” (Srimad Bhagavatam 10.2.32) to provide evidence that sayuja-mukti is not a permanent type of mukti. Question:

The goal of a Gaudiya Vaishnava is "Prema Bhakti", but out of the 5 types of mukti, for sayujya-mukti—we  use the pramana “aruhya krccrena param padam tatha, patanty adho anadrta yusmad anghrayah” (Srimad Bhagavatam 10.2.32) to provide evidence that sayuja-mukti is not a permanent type of mukti. If this is the case, why is it considered one of the types of mukti? My understanding of “mukti” here is based on the definition from Bhagavat 2.10.6 – muktir hitva anyatha rupam svarupena vyavasthitih.
