Question:

One devotee in our community started a business with prasadam and developed a whole company. The prasadam is widely distributed in whole country in shops and devotees themselves sell it on farmers’ markets. The company is source of money for several families of devotees and presently it is main economical pillar of our community.

Although we produce large quantities of prasadam the process is not mechanized – everything is hand-made and offered to Krishna by initiated devotees. We use just pure natural and bonafide ingredients – no chemical stuff etc. We are very strict in this regard and do no compromises.

The company has professional image. It is not directly advertised that it is Hare Krishna company although we do not hide it in any way that we are devotees and the food we distribute is prasadam.

We are sometimes criticized by some devotees that it is questionable if the food we produce is really prasadam and that whole company has nothing to do with devotional service and it is simply karmic work. It is mainly because of the professional look of the company and because we produce big quantities of food packaged in the way the karmi food is packaged.

I would like to ask you what is the proper understanding of the topic of "prasadam business" and our situation.

Indebtedness to Parents

July 3, 2015 |

Question: 1. Why does Krishna say here that one cannot repay his debt to his parents even if he serves them for a full lifetime of a hundred years when in S.B 11.5.4 Narada muni says to Vasudeva–“One who has taken shelter of Krishna’s lotus feet, is not indebted to demigods, great sages, ordinary living beings, relatives, friends, mankind or even one’s forefathers who have passed away.” So how are we to understand this statement and how should we take this comment in SB 10.45.5?… Expand>

Translation: With one’s body one can acquire all goals of life, and it is one’s parents who give the body birth and sustenance. Therefore no mortal man can repay his debt to his parents, even if he serves them for a full lifetime of a hundred years. (S.B.10.45.5).

Questions:

1. Why does Krishna say here that one cannot repay his debt to his parents even if he serves them for a full lifetime of a hundred years when in S.B 11.5.4 Narada muni says to Vasudeva–“One who has taken shelter of Krishna’s lotus feet, is not indebted to demigods, great sages, ordinary living beings, relatives, friends, mankind or even one’s forefathers who have passed away.” So how are we to understand this statement and how should we take this comment in SB 10.45.5?

2. Is this comment applicable to only a Krishna conscious father and mother or a materialistic father & mother also?

Question:

When reading Srila Prabhupada’s instructions through letters, how should one tell to himself that the instructions hold good for him too (with abject humility I say here that I am not questioning Srila Prabhupada, his instructions are very much relevant to the jivas, to the every atom in the universe) and not just to the said person in question. Sometimes if someone says, ‘oh, that was between Srila Prabhupada and the said person’ how should we reply that 'no, that also holds good for us too.’ Is there a quote from Srila Prabhupada to answer this question? I heard Srila Prabhupada talked about an analogy of sun in this context.

Why Does ISKCON Do Not Accept Evolution Theory?

August 3, 2011 |

Question: I have a question and I would be grateful should you be able to answer it for me. Why does ISKCON not accept Evolution which has withstood criticism for over 150 years? I have read some of the works of Cremo & Thompson yet I cannot but be surprised at how evolution is not accepted within ISKCON?
