Question:

I am listening to one of your lecture and an inquiry is made about chanting rounds or the Holy Name etc. for others.

In the Gita mahatmya there is one section where a bull is dying and all the people come and promise to give some of their accrued punya to the bull including a prostitute - she did it because she didn't want be the one who didn't because she thought she had no punya to give. But because the blessing from the prostitute alone the bull was born as a high brahmana and traced her out to find out what was her punya etc. She confessed that she was a prostitute and actually had no punya. But after some thought it was revealed that she had some parrots who used to belong to someone who chanted a specific chapter of the Gita daily and she used to listen to that and for this reason she had punya etc. So it seems that one can gift one's own punya to others. How would you explain this?

Material Difficulties, Sufferings and Failures for Devotees

August 29, 2011 |

Question:

1) Some devotees say that Reading Srimad Bhagavatam and Chanting Hare Krishna will award only spiritual benefits and will not remove any material difficulties that a devotee undergoes. Whereas some devotees say when Srimad Bhagavatam and Chanting Hare Krishna take you out of material world by giving Krishna Prema- why temporary material difficulties cannot be removed (if Krishna wishes). Please advise.

2) If someone utters the holy name for making fun of others his sins get washed away. If someone goes around Tulsi even sin like killing a brahmana can be removed. If someone pulls rath when Lord Jagannath is on the cart-all the sins are washed sway.If some one takes Lords remnants all the sins are washed away. Then why still devotees are suffering?

3) Many times we sincerely pray to guru, deities to remove anarthas, to award steadiness in Krishna consciousness, to protect us from all kinds of fall downs ( which happens again and again due to past conditioning) etc. Even we cry our heart out-but still results are not coming! How do we understand this?

Because of repeated failures we tend to think "may be it is not possible in this life" and frustration overcomes us.

Prahlada's Apparent Prayers for Material Benediction

July 3, 2015 |

Question: I could understand from Srimad Bhagavatam that Sri Prahalada Maharaja is fearless, he is a pure devotee of the Lord and does not ask for any material benefits from the Lord. But in the Nrsimha Kavaca mantra it states that; “Oh Lord please protect me from west, east, north etc. and there is also the phalastruti (result of reciting the kavaca) which states that one attains material benedictions like putrvan (good son), dhanavan (wealth), long life etc.… Expand>

Maharaja, kindly explain how to understand these two different moods of Prahlada Maharaja.

Question:

One devotee in our community started a business with prasadam and developed a whole company. The prasadam is widely distributed in whole country in shops and devotees themselves sell it on farmers’ markets. The company is source of money for several families of devotees and presently it is main economical pillar of our community.

Although we produce large quantities of prasadam the process is not mechanized – everything is hand-made and offered to Krishna by initiated devotees. We use just pure natural and bonafide ingredients – no chemical stuff etc. We are very strict in this regard and do no compromises.

The company has professional image. It is not directly advertised that it is Hare Krishna company although we do not hide it in any way that we are devotees and the food we distribute is prasadam.

We are sometimes criticized by some devotees that it is questionable if the food we produce is really prasadam and that whole company has nothing to do with devotional service and it is simply karmic work. It is mainly because of the professional look of the company and because we produce big quantities of food packaged in the way the karmi food is packaged.

I would like to ask you what is the proper understanding of the topic of "prasadam business" and our situation.
