Sankirtan Devotees

February 19, 2012 |

Question: Why is the term 'sankirtan devotees' so commonly used in ISKCON nowadays to address book/prasadam distributors? As I understood it from HDG Srila Prabhupada's books, we are all supposed to be sankirtan devotees, because we are part of Sri Caitanya's sankirtan mission. Not being a 'sankirtan devotee' is fatal in this respect. I looked through the Vedabase and Srila Prabhupada… Expand>

Why is the term 'sankirtan devotees' so commonly used in ISKCON nowadays to address book/prasadam distributors? As I understood it from HDG Srila Prabhupada's books, we are all supposed to be sankirtan devotees, because we are part of Sri Caitanya's sankirtan mission. Not being a 'sankirtan devotee' is fatal in this respect. I looked through the Vedabase and Srila Prabhupada never used the term himself, which is kind of suspicious. Thank you very much for clarification.

Question:

There are many opinions and philosophical interpretations within Vaishnava society. What is the Vaishnava process of resolution of these conflicts? Should there be (i) a majoritarian democratic process involving the entire Vaishnava congregation, (ii) literal textual authoritarianism with strict enforcement and excommunication procedures, (iii) hegemony of those who have attained institutional positions due to experience and merit, (iv) a legal and philosophical disputation process, in which all sides submit their positions and the judgment is made by a body of judges appointed through consensus, (v) an internal dialogue process based on argumentation and compromises that makes everyone least upset, or (vi) let each faction thrive and only if the harmony is disturbed, punitive action be taken against the culprit?

Question:

In a lecture at the philosophical camp 2011, Baroda, Your Holiness gave a lecture titled "Path to hell is paved by good intentions". I have two questions related to this lecture:

1) Your Holiness said that one may think that his intentions are good, but it may not be good enough and one may not even know that. So how to ensure that one's intentions are good enough? Is that possible one may try his best to be good intentioned still his effort is not good enough?

2) Your Holiness mentioned that there are some main points that one must understand, then other misunderstandings can/will be cleared in a course of time. But Your Holiness didn't describe these main points. So if I can know which are these main points that one should understand?
