Could you please share your vision on the books of Dr. OBL Kapoor (Adikesava prabhu). I am specifically interested to know your opinion regarding his biographies of the "Saints of Vraja". It has been recently published in Russian by devotees outside ISKCON and our devotees are enchanted by it. Still, some maintain their doubts about it. Should ISKCON devotees read this book?

His other book "The Saints of Bengal" is less popular since most of our devotees are aware of the existence of sakhi-bheki etc that it depicts.

I would be very grateful if you could advise us in this regard. Thank you very much.

November 15, 2011 |

Question: We know from Srimad Bhagavatam that Rsabhadeva is an incarnation of Lord Visnu. My question is then why that Jains follow the teachings of Lord Rsabhadeva as separate religion and set of practices distinct from Vaisanava principles. How did teachings of Lord get misinterpreted to such an extent that a new religion was born?

How to Identify Namacarya?

November 19, 2011 |

Question: In Sri Bhaktisiddhanta Vaibhava, volume 3 – Genuine and False Gaura Bhajana, Page 81, Srila Sarasvati Thakura makes a point that namacarya free from namapradha and namabhasa can give the Holy Name. And further that one should take shelter of a "pure namacarya". How does this apply in today's context within ISKCON, how does one know who is a namacarya to receive the Holy name from or approach for shelter?

No Desire to Serve the Lord in Santa Rati

Question:

In the purport to CC Madhya 8.294, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura is quoted poiting out that the Yamuna, the kadamba trees, cows, Krishna's flute and Krishna's sticks belong to the santa-rasa. Furthermore, in CC Madhya, 19.185 it's said that santa-rati is the neutral stage between the conception of impersonalism and personalism… not much willing to render service to the Lord.

It's difficult to understand how a living entity without the desire to render loving service can be in Goloka Vrndavana. And if I remember cows in Brahma-vimohana-lila, they seemed to have motherly affection toward Krishna (expanded as their calves). How to understand that the river Yamuna and the kalpa-vrksa trees also don't have much desire to serve?

Could you comment on this statement and explain how it is to be understood? Srila Prabhupada mentions material senses and then speaks about transcendental senses. Why does he not continue to say that devotees engage their material senses in the service of the Transcendence?
