In the Nectar of Devotion, Part1 Chapter 9, Further Consider of Devotional Principles, Srila Prabhupada says and I quote–The Padma Purana also mentions, “A person whose body is decorated with the pulp of sandalwood, with paintings of the holy name of the Lord, is delivered from all sinful reactions, and after his death he goes directly to Krishnaloka to live in association with the Supreme Personality of Godhead.”

Does this authenticate tattooing our body which I have seen is prevalent in Iskcon on North America?

Is varnasrama considered part of “sruti-smrti-puranadi-pancaratra-vidhim”? Speaking of myself, I really don’t fall in any asrama and of course varna is the lowest. Is any devotional service or other activities performed by me an unnecessary disturbance in society?

Burping, Belching, Spitting, Farting and "Excuse Me" Etiquette

January 6, 2014 |

Question: Our son Yadunandana (4.5 yrs) came one day after the school (run by devotees) and asked why he had to say "excuse me" after belching. We can hear Srila Prabhupada sometimes making heavy noises during the class and we have seen many sanyassis pass air or belch and say nothing. Could you please explain how one should behave according to vaisnava ettiquete when one happens to burp, belch or spit etc. while with others?

Question:

How to recognize who is chanting the holy name purely (eg. bhajans) since we don't know how this devotee acts in his private life? Is it a good sign that while hearing our attention to hear the holy name increases as well as our desire to chant more? I am hankering to associate with advanced devotees with pure motives, but it is so difficult for a fallen soul like me to distinguish properly. Sometimes I consider a certain devotee pure or serious but then hear of some "skeletons in his closet" so I became somewhat discouraged.
