How to Identify Namacarya?
ASK BVKS | November 19, 2011 |
In Sri Bhaktisiddhanta Vaibhava, volume 3 – Genuine and False Gaura Bhajana, Page 81, Srila Sarasvati Thakura makes a point that namacarya free from namapradha and namabhasa can give the Holy Name. And further that one should take shelter of a "pure namacarya". How does this apply in today's context within ISKCON, how does one know who is a namacarya to receive the Holy name from or approach for shelter?

Question: How does anartha nivrtti happens? Only through one's own efforts or it happens only due to mercy of guru and Krishna? Or both? On our own, we find it difficult to give up certain habits or certain non devotional activities. Living out side the temple (away from devotees) worsen the situation. Ones own efforts save him or only mercy?

As part of our plan to establish varnasrama projects, when the community gets bigger we will also try to install ksatriya kings. The main duty of ksatriyas is to curb adharma. So if someone in the community is posing as God, he should immediately be killed as shown by Krnsa when he killed Paundraka. But we also understand that Caitanya Mahaprabhu's policy was not to kill demons but the demoniac tendency. So should the King refrain from killing such people? This question can be expanded to include all types of death sentences- even those given to murderers.
According to this logic if one so called God is killed by the government on the basis of his having proved himself as God, all other Gods will automatically stop and immediately adharma is under control.^ Show less

Question: Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu personally sang while Vakresvara Pandita danced. How come that Vakresvara Pandita then desired that "O Candramukha! Please give me ten thousand Gandharvas. Let them sing as I dance, and then I will be greatly happy." (CC Adi 10.19) and not desired for the Lord to sing on and on and he would dance continuously?

Do devotees get influenced by the three modes of material nature?
ANSWER by HH Bhakti Vikāsa Swami:
“Do devotees get influenced by the three material modes of nature? Well, do you? You are a devotee. Do you get influenced?
Sometimes. You are doing better than most of us.
māṁ ca yo 'vyabhicāreṇa
sa guṇān samatītyaitān
Kṛṣṇa says: “One who engages in unflinching, unalloyed … ”
What’s the word Prabhupāda uses?
“Undistracted devotional service to Me transcends the modes of material nature, becomes completely fixed on the transcendental platform.” Unalloyed. “One who engages in My unalloyed devotional service.” (BG 14.26)
So, yeah. We are also influenced by the modes of material nature, but we should practise Kṛṣṇa consciousness very seriously and then gradually we will become free from that influence.”^ Show less

Question: I have experienced that there is conflict between devotees serving under different leaders: many devotees consider their own service or approach to bhakti as the most authentic, and associating with different genres of devotees sometimes creates confusion in my mind. Why does this conflict emerge although all devotees are engaged in service of Krishna? How can we overcome conflict and instead cooperate to fight against our common enemies, impersonalism and materialism.

Question: We know from Srimad Bhagavatam that Rsabhadeva is an incarnation of Lord Visnu. My question is then why that Jains follow the teachings of Lord Rsabhadeva as separate religion and set of practices distinct from Vaisanava principles. How did teachings of Lord get misinterpreted to such an extent that a new religion was born?
