Question:

I have noticed some devotees only drink milk from protected cows and I was wondering if should I do the same. I tend to drink a cup of milk in the evening because this is what Prabhupada said was needed to develop the brain. I am being told that the milk given by karmis is full of poison and you don't receive the benefit. Others are saying, "what can be done we have to drink milk anyways." What is the correct stance on this issue?

Do We Need to Spend Time on Introspection?

May 1, 2016 |

Question: When it comes to spiritual life, as a sadhaka, I am busy on constant survival mode, trying to chant, read, hear etc. Between this, do I need to spend time to self-introspect? For example, I was listing to a lecture of Jswami. In his lecture he was talking about how lust or desire is the cause of material bondage. Am I supposed to self-introspect myself and change this desire aspect or is this hovering over the mental plane?

Puja and Seva

March 18, 2016 |

Question: However we use the word "puja (worship)" in relation to guru. Guru-puja, Vyasa-puja etc. Also Krsna says to Uddhava: mad-bhakta-pujabhyadhika. What is a context in these cases where the word "puja" is used?… Expand>

Question:

From Srila Prabhupada's lecture on Srimad-Bhagavatam 5.5.1 — October 22, 1976, Vrndavana

Puja means I call you and offer you some respectable [indistinct], some foodstuff, and then very much seated very comfortably. Naturally I may ask, "What do you want?" Then I'll expect, "Give me this. Give me that. Give me that." That is going on. That is called puja. But those who are worshiping the Supreme Personality of Godhead, that is not called puja; that is called seva, krsna-seva. We never say krsna-puja. Nobody... Never says like that. Seva. Seva means it is my duty. I am eternal servant of Krsna. Seva is my duty. So there is difference between puja and seva. Puja means I flatter you to satisfy you, and after being satisfied, you may offer me something, or I'll ask you something and you offer me. That is called puja. That is devata-puja. But, so when you come to Krsna, or Visnu, that is not puja; that is seva. Seva. So as Krsna is offered seva, service, similarly His representative, he is also offered seva.

(end of quote)

Srila Prabhupada writes in the purport to BG 6.47:

The word bhajate is significant here. Bhajate has its root in the verb bhaj, which is used when there is need of service. The English word "worship" cannot be used in the same sense as bhaj. Worship means to adore, or to show respect and honor to the worthy one. But service with love and faith is especially meant for the Supreme Personality of Godhead. One can avoid worshiping a respectable man or a demigod and may be called discourteous, but one cannot avoid serving the Supreme Lord without being thoroughly condemned.

(end of quote)

However we use the word "puja (worship)" in relation to guru. Guru-puja, Vyasa-puja etc. Also Krsna says to Uddhava: mad-bhakta-pujabhyadhika. What is a context in these cases where the word "puja" is used?

Following Srila Prabhupada Outside ISKCON

Question:

I have two doubts, I hope you can show some light.

After Srila Prabhupada disappearance, many former ISKCON devotees moves to another branches of the Gaudiya Matha and take shelter in many senior vaisnavas disciples of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur (actually Srila Prabhupada godbrothers: Srila Sridhara Maharaj, Srila Puri Maharaj, etc.) and many of them even started with success their own missions (Tripurari Maharaj, Narasingha Maharaj, etc.). I want to ask you if it is posible to follow Srila Prabhupada and became a bonafide Prabhupadanuga outside ISKCON or if it´s just a "degree" that someone can attain only being a member of ISKCON?

On the other hand, for the last 30 years Srila Prabhupada godbrothers acknowleged Him as "Saktiavesa Avatara" or "Jagad Guru" and celebrate in their respective maths His abirbhava and tirobhava (Sri Gopinath Matha, Sri Caitanya Saraswat Matha, Sri Caitanya Gaudiya Matha, etc). Furthermore Srila Jayapataka Swami started Sarasvasta Gaudiya Vaisnava Association and Srila Paramadvaiti (aka Alanath Swami) World Vaisnava Association as well, to reunite all the branches of the "Bhaktisidhanta Parampara". So, how it is that even today it seems to be so difficult to many ISKCON leaders to accept "as bonafide as ISKCON" any other branch of the Gaudiya Matha in the light that all of them came from the same seed (Srila Bhaktisiddhanta) and in opposition they point Srila Prabhupada (or ISKCON gurus) as the only bonafide acaryas for humankind? Can you please Maharaj help me to understand this in a propper way and mood?
